60 degrees of separation
Camille Paycha
Six degrees of separation is the name of the social theory that states that you are never more than six handshakes away from any other person in the world. Sixty degrees is about the angle needed to lift someone off the ground, if that person has one hand in the aerial strap, and one hand being pulled by someone else. 60 degrees of separation combines both ideas into one intimate circus performance.
Everything and everyone on stage is moving around you. The drummer is on a rolling podium, two acrobats are in the air, suspendend on one aerial strap only. They are holding hands, and will be needing yours. Thanks to the audience, always within reach of the action, impressive tricks will come to life. Camille Paycha sets up a collective experiment to figure out whether and when a technical movement can become intimate. With this project, she tries to shift the verticality of her craft to a more collaborative and transversal way of dealing with her surroundings, both literally and figuratively.
